“Twangy and Powerful”- Parade Magazine

“Brooke is a revelation that’s both retro and modern — and as real as the rural place she calls home. Which all makes us very happy to be premiering a good example of her prodigious talent” -Cowboys and Indians Magazine

"Superb country poetry" - Americana Highways

"..the album is just as outstanding. If you make one blind buy this year, make it this one.” – NO DEPRESSION

"The Queen of Underground Country is back to show all you whipper snappers how instilling pain and heartbreak in a country song is done" - Saving Country Music

"Some of the purest, direct music you'll hear from a contemporary artist" - Pop Matters

“Sturgill Simpson officially reignited interest in the kind of outlaw country that cats like Waylon Jennings made popular in the 70’s. Others would soon follow. I have always been surprised that this hasn’t happened on the women’s side of the microphone with the same amount of haste…That slot was left for Rachel Brooke” -Disciples of Sound

“She’s a charismatic, drawling low alto with a terrific, conversational delivery on this bluesy strut. There’s a great deal of promise here.” -Robert Oermann, Music Row Magazine

"Like the early Johnny Cash, she has an ability to deliver performances that are commercial and accessible while avoiding the antiseptic syrup that spills over much of mainstream Nashville’s output" - Americana Highways

"Drenched in old-school C&W flavor, but with aspects of the execution situating her as something other than a mere throwback"- Vinyl District

"Lyrically witty and expressive" - The Amp

"A warm exploration of sadness" - Tower Records

"Shooter Jennings is right. Rachel Brooke is an artist to keep your eyes (and ears) on. It’s safe to assume that she has spent a lot of time listening to old country records because she captures the spirit of old country music in every song, especially in the sad ones.” – GLIDE MAGAZINE

"It’s the kind of voice that makes everything it touches sound like a vintage country jukebox, but Brooke pairs it with exciting, expectation-dodging influences that elevate The Loneliness in Me above mere Nashville pastiche.” – NORTHERN EXPRESS

A rare and sought-after DIY collaboration from Rachel Brooke, and songwriter Brooks Robbins. Full of Detroit grit, this is a straight-up break up record – and the first chapter into this songwriting duo’s critically acclaimed work. Originally released on CD in 2009 (the same year Rachel released her Demos album and recorded A Bitter Harvest with Lonesome Wyatt from Those Poor Bastards), this collection has maintained an air of mystery and obscurity in the underground country realm. Now released on limited edition vinyl, JUNK perfectly encapsulates a moment in time – a picture of heartbreak and sorrow, and a vulnerable longing for a failing love. 250 copies pressed on Gold & White swirled vinyl.

Released December, 4th 2012

Rachel Brooke channels the darkest nights of American Southern music, pulling forth influences from raw, early country singing to Chicago blues greats, vintage New Orleans "jass" bands to old animated cartoons (see video below!), all tied together in the framework of her old-fashioned melodies. It takes a peculiar vision to be able to unite these many different sounds, but Brooke’s pulled off the most difficult task: she’s created a new sound from a pastiche of old music without sounding derivative.

As always, she evokes the past, but not "ironically" or as some precious thing, but because there's a certain kind of magic old music evokes in us. This album is a thematic story cycle that could easily loop back to the beginning after the final song has finished. We're taken from the first fast heartbeats of new love to the final gasps of love faded."- CC2K

Self Released/Independent

“(Down in the Barnyard) I love this album. I think it's superb. I am astounded by how wholly original the thing is, how successful the theme and vision were implemented and seen through, that it brought out Rachel's subtly brilliant songwriting, and most importantly, did not suffocate her most important asset: her timeless, flawless voice.”- Saving Country Music

“(Down in the Barnyard) "There was a strange kind of cognitive dissonance at work here, the brain pulled in all sorts of directions at once. There's so much depth here. So much room for vision, for contemplation. It's metaphysical country music. But the good stuff always is. To borrow from the great Dean Moriarty: This woman knows time. Dig?"”-Pat King , CC2K
